I just hate it because Lady, completely opposite of Gunny, is a TERROR to take anywhere.

I have to sedate her to get her in the car, she'll puke immediately.

THEN, it takes 4 people to hold her down to do ANYTHING.

When she had her nails clipped, it took the Vet (at least 220lbs) to hold her, 1 assistant to hold her hinds legs, another to hold the front, and a 4th to actually cut them.

She freaks out, shakes nervously, and will nip. It's nuts.

Oh, and she's only like...40 pounds.

oh no! im sorry... have you ever thought about getting pet insurance for them? i have it through pet smart and its wonderful he gets a check up every 6 mo i think, free teeth cleaning, and with the check-up they check everything from head to toe. if you need medication for anything you get like a 10 % discount, all shots are covered, you dont pay an office visit. id look into it i think its well worth it

We had a really bad experience with Banfield.

When we adopted Gunny as a pup, he had a really sensitive stomach.

For MONTHS he had severe diarrhea. In the house, outside... I took him to Banfield repeatedly because it's only 2 minutes from the house. They ran tests, iv's, antibiotics... No one knew. We kept going back until one day, he had blood so I took him in...they said they wanted to do x-rays, check for a blockage, check for cancer, yada yada yada. I wanted a second opinion before I forked over ANOTHER grand (we had already spent over $1,000).

I took him to a small mom and pop vet, after explaining the issue, he said,"Oh. He has Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Give him a prednisone a day for a week and if he flares up ever again, just give him a prednisone." $75 and it was GONE. He's only had the issue once since then (happens when you eat...seashells.)

Everyone else I know has had great luck with Banfield. Just not us. ROFL

I'm with Kelly maybe insurance would be good for them.

I'm surprised the vet will even cut her nails without putting her to sleep! Usually when they act that way they demand you put them to sleep lol

Missy expressed her anal gland (she hates people in general and add in the fact they were cutting her nails) she made the whole place stink! The lady was NOT thrilled lol She came home and took a bath immediately and had to ride in the back of the Jeep for the first time ever. Stinky girl!

Manage...that is crazy! Hopefully the meds will help them both quickly. Poor babies and poor Jeannette.

I always sedate Lady before we go anywhere. She can't handle carrides so I give her a sedative.

Even WITH one, she's still "scrappy" around other people when they're poking and prodding. lol

The first time I took Missy to the vet I didn't know how she would do..she did fine in the car, fine in the waiting area, fine on the table...then the lady put the thermometer in her butt and she tried biting her. The lady said "if they were doing this to me I'd bite too!" lol So now every time I go I have to tell them to muzzle her...she thinks she's big lol

That's what it is! You can hold Gunny by the ears and he won't care.

Lady, the 40 pound mutt, will bite your ass.

They don't muzzle her though because she freaks out. She runs around and crashes her head into things and paws at it. It's just easy for 3 people to pin her down while another cuts.

I thought about getting it for Gunny in the past but then we switched and I didn't know you could get them insurance besides Banfield!

I'm going to see how this mange stuff ends. It honestly might be the issue he's had all along and maybe it just came out? He's had the same problems with his ears/skin forever.

Its a parasite that gets on the skin. Extremely itchy and they loose their hair from it too.

Post by Jeannette Thu Oct 21, 2010 11:07 am

Yep. It's a form of canine scabies.

You can't see it with the naked eye but it burrows in the dogs skin and causes severe allergic reactions. This causes the dog to itch like hell and eventually lose fur.

If it goes untreated, the scratching can cause sores/wounds and infections.

It can get on humans but it'll just cause itching and red dots. The canine form can't reproduce on a human host.

It's fucking gross and I've never had fleas, ticks, or mange issues until I moved to a warmer climate.

WI is too cold for that crap to exist. lol

I am glad we moved from Hubert! The back yard was right at the edge of the woods...Missy had ticks and fleas...since we've been here in TT not one tick or flea!

I think our issue is just the apartment living.

Everyone and their brother has a dog.

I KNOW not every single dog is up to date on their flea/tick preventative, heartworm etc.

Gunny even had hookworms for a while.

When we get this house, I'm spraying the living shit out of the yard. There will be nothing alive but grass and my dogs.
