Daycare Drama

Post by Liz on Wed Dec 08, 2010 5:01 pm

Not with daycare, just getting Rosemary dropped off in the morning. It is awful. Every day is getting worse.

When I picked her up today she said "Mommy, Rosemary was crying today." When I asked her why she said "becuase Mommy has to go to school." What are you supposed to say to that? sadeyes

sadeyes I hate it.

Wesson still sobs and freaks when I leave. I have to wait until he's distracted with a toy and I bolt for the door. I hate feeling like the bad guy. Sad

There is no bolting with her. The crying starts at home now when ahe gets up. She looked at me thins morning when she woke up and said "I am going to stay in my pajamas and stay home, okay Mommy" Really? *sigh* Only 3 more days of this semester. Maybe next semester will be better.

Does she not like the school for some reason? Or is it really just separation?

Sad She will get used to it...just tell her she has to be a big girl and go to big girl school while you go to Mommy school. Just try being positive because if she knows it makes you sad/gets you down/etc. she will continue to do so in hopes she won't have to go any more.
hugs hang in there!

I just don't get it. I have been going to school since August. She should be getting better and not worse at this by now. Then I am off for over a month, and we will have to start all over again.

Maybe talk to the someone at the daycare and see if she is having any issues...and if she stops crying once you leave. She may just be giving you a guilt trip but it really might be that she doesn't like the daycare...some kid might be being mean to her.

Another suggestion is to not just stop taking her to daycare. Continue to take her maybe twice a week Tuesdays & Thursdays that way she doesn't get out of the habit and you don't have to feel like your starting all over again.

I can't really do that because we are going to Asheville next week, it's the holidays after that, then I think we are going to MN for a few weeks while I am on break. I think we will start some kind of reward system, like if she doesn;t cry she gets a smile sticker and if she gets 5 smile stickers I will take her to McDonalds or something like that.

I don't know if you can do this or not.... but I started waking up about 30 minutes early and when I drop Mackenzie off I now walk in, and play with her there for about 10-15 minutes until she gets happy and smiling and playing with friends and then I leave. Ever since making this change, Mackenzie NEVER cries when I leave. It's made a HUGE difference because she doesn't expect me to bolt as soon as we get to daycare... she knows we will play for a few minutes in the morning.

That's what I used to do LaDonna. I would play with her for like 10 minutes then she would be okay. She starts crying now before we even are out the door.

Poor baby!!! I know that has to be tough.... the only other idea I have is definitely the reward system.... I made a calendar and let Mackenzie pick out her special stickers, etc. and I wrapped up a bunch of special little presents (usually from the dollar store) and every time Mackenzie got a sticker she could open up the present. That worked really well for us too.
