More reason why I hate doctors/hospitals in general
I'm bitter when it comes to medical...always have been. Last night, Wesson was wheezing pretty bad. After 2 nebulizer treatments, 1/2 tsp Prednisone, and no getting better, I took him to the ER.
10pm - Get there, get checked in, placed in exam room.
12am (AM?!?!?!?!?) - Get seen by a nurse who says she'll be OUR nurse. (I saw her maybe once after that...) At this point, I'm pissed. This is a RESPIRATORY INFANT PROBLEM. Wesson is sleeping on my chest, I'm propped up in a chair watching TLC.
12:30am - Doctor comes in, we discuss, we argue about what's asthma and what isn't, he decides a treatment is necessary. (DUH)
1am - Respiratory nurse gives treatment, says she thinks we need another, says she'll get doctor's opinion. Of course, at this point, I'm watching tv and she's telling me that hopefully Josie will be the last for the Duggars and throws her unwanted opinion to me. ...grrr.
1:30am - Doc comes in, says one more treatment and 20mg of prednisone, wait for nurse.
2am - Nurse gives another treatment, "our" nurse gives prednisone.
2:15am - Doc comes in, says we need a script for prednisone, gives instructions, says c-ya and to wait for discharge papers (I'm irate at this point).
2:30am - Random nurse comes in to listen to him, says she's going to do discharge papers...
3am - DISCHARGED.
Are you fucking joking?! 5 HOURS?! FOR TWO FUCKING TREATMENTS AND PREDNISONE?! To tell me again that he AGAIN has bronchitis.
I got home, slept for maybe...TWO hours...
Mark is letting me go home while Wes is in daycare. I'll make up the hours later.

They are always like that. Just remember that is what happens when you take them to the ER and if they CAN wait just wait until morning and take them to the peds. They are more willing to treat him.
Those doctors don't want to be there at midnight so they aren't happy campers.
I never did understand when the ER is empty why it takes so long to be seen.
I would be telling my PED that this has going on to long and something needs to be done..no kid should have Bronchitis this long.

Re: More reason why I hate doctors/hospitals in general
This is the FOURTH TIME off and on for the past...3/4 months? His pediatrician just sees him, slaps him with more Albuterol or Pulmicort (depending on her mood), and sends us on our way. This is bullshit. I really REALLY like her personality, but I don't think I'm happy with the place... I'm tempted to find a new Ped... Which is great...finding a pediatrician in Garner with Tricare. Ergh...
Re: More reason why I hate doctors/hospitals in general
Yeah, I could see that being an issue. Have you asked her what their protocol is for referring you to a specialist? How many times does he have to get sick in a certain period of time before she will do some testing?
Btw, how many months has he been in daycare now? Sorry, everything is running together these days. Does it seem like when he started daycare he started getting sick?

I haven't asked his regular ped. because APPARENTLY (per the ER doc...) they don't diagnose anyone under 3 with asthma or other breathing conditions because typically they outgrow. Which, although that may be true, that's not true in EVERYONE'S case. My dad, sister, grandma, grandpa, great-grandma, myself, my uncles, my aunts, all have COPD and/or asthma. I'd like them to tell my sister who was admitted 6 times before age 1 that she "didn't" have a breathing problem.
If he doesn't get better in a week, I'm going to raise hell at his pediatricians office. In my opinion, slapping a kid with prednisone (which is a nasty drug anyway), and Pulmicort, sending them on their merry way doesn't always cut the cake.
He's been in daycare since...November? Late October? He had one bout of this before daycare and was on the nebulizer. It goes away, returns, goes away, returns... He's good for a couple weeks and then the sniffles start back up and the raspy chest and cough follows. He tested negative for RSV and it doesn't sound like Croup. He's got more sniffles being at daycare but...I can handle constant colds, but not constant respiratory infections. That just doesn't seem right...

That sucks. Which ER did you go to. If it was onslow I worked last night lol (not a nurse). Sounds like to me if it is something that keeps coming back talk to your peds about seeing and specialist. DEMAND it. If they say no tell them your family history, and then call tricare, managers, make an ICE report. There are ways to get what you want...lol me and Navy have had rounds! You are the best person to tell when something is wrong with your baby!! Side note my good friend had cronic bronchitis and I asked if she was allergic to anything and she said mold. Since it was raining so much we looked around her house and turns out there was mold and once they fixed it she cleared right up. I'm not saying it is mold or anything. But maybe its an allergy problem...then again they won't diagnose a baby under a year with seasonal allergies (been there done that). lol. I agree an ER is not a good place to get the BEST medical care, unless its an emergency and still it is a place to stabilize ya know. You know I work in an er and I honestly can't tell you why it takes so long either. But I just take the xrays! I hope baby wess feels better!!! Get some sleep!!

Re: More reason why I hate doctors/hospitals in general
It was an ER up in Garner (I don't live near Jacksonville).
I'm going to do the 5 days of Prednisone/nebulizer and if he doesn't get better, I'm going to flip a lid at the pediatricians.
They haven't done any allergy tests or anything either...I'm SURE he's allergic to SOMETHING (his health issues already obviously take after mine, not Jon...) No one has done a damn thing except go..."Here, take this." They hand out fricken prednisone and the nebulizer like it's candy.

Re: More reason why I hate doctors/hospitals in general
well an Ice report is a report you make it a hospital if you had a bad experience Ice is what navy calls it but it if often called by different names. If you go to the website of the hospital you and usually file a complaint and it goes to the patient rep who takes care of it from there.
That has to be fustrating to just keep giving him rx's over and over again. With the twins whenever it rains they get really raspy I throw a humidifier and an air purifier in their room and have them sleep elevated and that seems to help too. Good luck I hope you find out why your little cutie is not feeling good!

Re: More reason why I hate doctors/hospitals in general
I talked to Liz (on here) last night and I think I'm going to get a humidifier. I hate hearing him wheeze/raspy over the baby monitor at night. Some of the stuff sounds like it's breaking up a little... He sneezed this morning and I didn't know a kid could contain so much snot...

LOL. That has to be scary at night!

Hm...not like I'VE SUGGESTED A HUMIDIFIER have I JEANNETTE Oh well at least LIZ told you to get one
I think the humidifier would help him. Make him sleep elevated too...he may not like it at first but just keep putting him on the pillow and he will get used to it.
Next time he goes back tell them you want something done. No kid should have bronchitis that many times at his age.

I know I know I know... But then he'd get better, then worse, then better...
He won't sleep on a pillow...I could try to prop him up after he's gone to sleep but he tosses and turns ALL night. He never wakes up in the same spot...

Then put him in his crib and elevate his crib. Stack blankets under the end with his head. It will help. I used to do that with Reese because I was to scared of him smothering under the pillow.

Re: More reason why I hate doctors/hospitals in general
Wesson tries to smother himself enough. Pillows don't scare me. I watched him one day put himself flat-face down in just the crib mattress. After a few seconds, he turned his head and went..."HUUUU" and took a deep breath. I know he'll turn his head if he doesn't breathe.
Maybe I'll shove some stuff under there...
Do you put the humidifer by the crib or just in the room somewhere?

Re: More reason why I hate doctors/hospitals in general
I would put it as close to his head as possible. You can also get the humidifers that have the vapors ...so you can put the Vicks in it to help him with breathing. That is what I would do!

I hope it helps Jeannette!! My little brother always had to sleep with a humidifier. My mom would put Vicks in it, and it would help him!

He slept with a clear nose last night.
I bought the Vicks Ultrasonic watchamacallit humidifier.
It had the little Vicks pads...
Amazinggggggg. I wanted to sleep on the floor next to him.
