Stupid Colleges...

So I want to go back to school. And there's a distance learning program and school that I like. However, in order to get accepted, I have to take 5 classes physically, AT the campus (UNC-Charlotte). She told me that I can take them anywhere, but I can't find any local colleges that offer them.

It's the blessing and curse of having a career already. I have the job, but I can't take the time off to continue and further.

Girl we are in the same boat.... but luckily my job is willing to let me take off for 1-2 classes a week! Otherwise, I'd be SOL

I'd like to take some time off after Jon gets a civilian job so I can go back to school...it'd just be for a semester or something until I can take those classes. I can't think of anything else.

well I'm starting back this summer..... I'll be taking my one pre-req. math this summer than start full time in the fall.... but most will be distant education with 1-2 on site classes.... it's going to be tough but I'm excited!

Where are you going?

I am having a hard time because every schools pre-reqs are different for nursing. And since I don't know the Chicago area too well I don't know which schools are too far or where traffic is bad or if the area is bad, etc....

There are good...and baaaaaaad parts.

I haven't decided if I am going to go to Milwaukee or Chicago. We're kind of in between. I would prefer Grayslake, that's a nice area. I kind of know the area a smidge since that's where I was for pretty much all of 2004, so at least I got that going for me. We're going to try and go whenever he can take leave in April so we can check ou schools and housing.

Well, if you're thinking Milwaukee (it's about an hour and 45 minutes away...plus a few toll booths), let me know. I can give you guided tours. The schools are alright, but UWM is pretty hippy-liberal.

Grayslake is nice. What about Racine/Kenosha? That's definitely closer to Chicago...

Or Gurnee....for shopping of course.

Well Gurnee is a given. DH already told me "Don't expect me to take you to Gurnee every weekend."

I looked at Gateway, but they said their program is so competetive they don't admit from outside Kenosha.

I personally know the dean of Gateway. She even made Wesson a baby blanket.

I'd imagine they'd admit for vets though? They have other campuses too. Hmmm.

What specific program are you trying to get into? I have her on my Facebook and can shoot her a message when I get home if you're for real! Or, shall I wait until you guys know for sure where you want to go?

Nursing. That would be awesome actually. Kenosha is such an easier drive. That toll to get into Illionois is a beotch, but oh well. We're living on base, so it would be fine to drive there.

I think you guys should mive back up there. Think of how much fun we would have!

I was confused about Gateway because you have to petition to get into the nusring program, Most schools you do the prereq's then apply. They said petitioning can take 1 1/2 to 3 years. Is that really how it is? I don't have time for that!

Some of the nursing programs do have wait lists for the programs. Everyone wants to be a nurse.

Do you have transferrable credits from Navy? It's an Associates right?

I already have an associates in soemthing else and a ton of other classes. I'm not sure what from the Navy will transfer. Nothing probably. Go figure. It is the associates there that I am looking at though.

Well ask if I have the prereqs done how long would it really take me to petition. I talked to somebody in admissions, but they were rather unpleasant and said since I am not a WI resident I won't get in. There has got to be some kind of military reciprocity you would think.

Aren't you a Minnesota resident? Minnesota and Wisconsin have a deal where you pay in-state tuition, etc.

And ya...there should be something for military. I'll send her a message tonight.

I am a MN resident. Am I still if I move to IL since I am no longer AD? How does that work for spouses?
