Re: Hurricane Earl
I think it still might. That's a hell of a curve it has to make to avoid us. Weather Channel said it is a strong 4 and could become a 5.
Re: Hurricane Earl
Again, glad I am up here. I'll just have blizzards to contend with!

Re: Hurricane Earl
So I've been stalking the National Weather Service...
And...my coworker as former Coast Guard.
The front from the west that is supposed to PUSH Earl out into sea has 16 hours to do it (earl is supposed to scuff the coast at 2am FRI). That front is still a ways off. Also, there is a High Pressure point to the north of us. High pressure rotates clockwise. If the front moves west, and the pressure point rotates clockwise, I don't see Earl getting pushed anywhere.
ALSO. The eye of the hurricane is 35 miles across. The hurricane ITSELF is 400 miles across. The eye is supposed to pass NC coast approximately 50 miles from shore. That leaves about 175 +/- miles of the hurricane to pass over land...westward.
http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/rah/ You can see that even a tropical storm warning is as far inland is Kinston.
*I* think it's coming. It has a pretty ****ing sharp turn to make to avoid landfall.

Re: Hurricane Earl
Every weekend is a huge flea market at the state fairgrounds, and it's FREE!
I was thinking about going and checking out the produce.
