Thinking about changing my major
I just don't think I can be a nurse. I worked as an LPN before I was in the Navy, then 6 years of being a Corpsman, I think I'm spent. I am thinking about going to be a paralegal. Since I have a degree already I should be able to get done in a year.
Am I crazy? It gives me something to do until I decide what I really want to do, instead of wasting my GI Bill on classes I don't really need.

I don't know what I want to do. But I know we will PCS by the time I can get into a nursing program here. Then I would be starting all over again. I am sick of doing that. I think I just want to work for a while.

Im getting ready to go for my earlychildhood A.A degree I love kids but i am going for my A.A because I don't know if its what i really want to do yet
Re: Thinking about changing my major
I was trying to get my pre reqs done to go into the nursing program and decided I hated it. I would love to do something legal but right now I don't have the time, energy, or motivation. And I learned my lesson about taking classes without motivation.

Agreed. Doing something that makes you unhappy is pointless... I think of the old job I had and I wonder wtf did I even do that.

I don't know that I don't want to be a nurse, but we are going to be moving a lot when my husband puts in his officer package. I tried to talk to him about just staying here when he goes to San Antonio, then San Diego, but he isn't having that. But he insists I finish school. I have a degree, I can use it, but it doesn't make as much money as he wants me to.

Do ittttttttttt. It's always good to have a fallback plan. Use your nursing as that and do something fun.
Trust me, if I could turn back time, I wouldn't be designing sprinkler systems day in and out FOREVER!

Re: Thinking about changing my major
Those darn Marines burned me out on healthcare.
The problem right now is I really want to stay home with Rosemary until she starts school. I'm sure you guys are sick of hearing that from me, but that's what I want. Then when she goes to school I could go back too. It's only a few years away, and if we are going to be moving I don't see why it is such a bad plan.

What about just a random job part-time? Would that offset daycare costs and help out with extra income? Is that what your hubby is freaking out about?
Re: Thinking about changing my major
Who knows. I do get a lot right now from my GI Bill, but I think I could make it up working. Then I also get disability. So it's not like I don't bring in anything. I pay for everything right now the way it is (except rent and stuff, since we live in housing). I just don't know what he wants me to do. He wants us to come with him, but he thinks I will be done with school by then, which if I do go for my RN there is just no way. I wouldn;t even start the 2 years of the program until probably Fall 2011 Jan 2012. We PCS in April 2012.
Getting into a nursing program is so discouraging.

Re: Thinking about changing my major
I think you should have a sit down with your DH and really talk to him about how getting into the nursing program will put you back to when ya'll are PCS'ing.
Then explain that financially you're doing fine and since there is going to be a lot of moving in the future to just let you stay home with Rosemary until you are in a stable place long enough to finish out a degree.
Rosemary is what 2? So you have 2 more years until she can start school full time. 2 more years will go by quick. I say just get a part time job and then stay with Rosemary the rest of the time.

Yeah except they pay probably like 6 bucks an hour. I could get a job with my first degree. I think I might, and take next semester off. Or wait until unemployment runs out.
