Secret Ingredient Sloppy Joes
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1 1/2 cups finely shredded cabbage (the secret ingredient!)
1 onion, chopped
1 celery rib, chopped
1/4 cup chopped green pepper
1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon mustard
1 teaspoon salt
Dash pepper
Directions:
In a large skillet, cook the beef, cabbage, onion, celery and green pepper over medium heat until meat is no longer pink and vegetables are crisp-tender; drain. stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, lemon juice, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt and pepper. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes or until cabbage is tender. Serve on buns.
The cabbage stretches your meat like crazy in this recipe. It is awesome if you are making them for a bunch of people, or want to freeze the leftovers. Great way to save a little money! Like 30 cents worth of cabbage nearly doubles how much sloppy joe there is. Plus it gives it an awesome flavor. Trust me, have I ever steered you wrong?

I make these in the crokpot too. Way easier. Just brown the beef and throw everything in the crockpot. Then you can cook it for however long you need, like on high for 4 hours or low 6 to 8. You could just throw the beef, cabbage, and some Manwich in a crockpot too I guess. I should try it that way some time!
