Homework help
Will you guys help me? I'm supposed to ask 3 people what the following proverbs mean:
The sun shines on those who stand before those who kneel
A child who washes his hands may eat with kings
Let the Kite (a bird) perch and the eagle perch. If one says no to the other. let his wing break
A man who pays respect to the great paves the way to his own greatness
An old woman is always uneasy when dry bones are mentioned in a proverb
He is like a man who has ten and one wives and not enough soup for his bowl
When a mother cow is chewing grass its young ones watch its mouth
A man who makes trouble for others is making trouble for himself
An animal rubs its itching flank against a tree, a man asks his kinsman to scratch him
If you could explain any of them I would really appeciate it.
See how this is helping me be a great nurse?

I can't explain them to you but I'll tell you what they mean to me.
1. I think of royalty or a king if someone is kneeling before them. Obviously they are of importance in some aspect to earn that type of respect and to be in that position means they were blessed at some point or another.
2. Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
3. I think if one bird was to say no that would make it a hypocrite and it has no right to judge another without dealing with the consequences.
4. Showing respect to others earns yourself respect in the long run. It speaks for your character.
5. I have no clue other than old ladies have "dry bones" so it scares them. ------ Okay, I looked it up. It is from the book "Things Fall Apart" and this is what I found...It basically means that someone who has a problem with something cannot easily laugh it off or take it lightly; hence, old women (who typically have dry bones) feel uneasy when dry bones are mentioned. In the case of the novel, Okonkwo has issues with his father and for that reason he cannot laugh when others make fun of his father.
6. He seems like a glutton taking more than he needs and can provide for. He can't even care for himself much less 11 wives. Think before you act and only take what you need instead of what you want.
7. A child does as it sees it's mother/parents do.
8. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. He is expelling negativity upon others which will surely only bring upon himself in the long run. Same as earlier, by paying respect you earn respect.
9. Humanity. A man has friendship among his own kind. He can turn to others for help when he is in need and do the same in return.
These all seem to be from the same author/book.

1. Stand up for yourself and don't give up and good things will come to you before they come to someone who doesn't try.
2. Cleanliness is next to Godliness
3. Do onto others as you want others to do to you
4. Learn from the past/your elders and use what they teach you
5. Youth is Beauty
6. Someone who gives everything they have, even if it leaves nothing for themselves
7. Parents are the ones to mold their child into what they become
8. Karma is a Bitch
9. There is nothing wrong with asking for help sometimes

Re: Homework help
Heck, yesterday I cut out a coupon for National Geographic magazine (a whole YEAR for 15 bucks). When Justin got home I was like, "baby, please please please!!!" Then I tried another approach, "It makes for great toilet reading you know how you like that."

Re: Homework help
I have been re-reading books from when I was a kid. Anne of Green Gables and Little House on the Prairie.
I love, love Rosamunde Pilcher. They are kind of sappy, but I'm into that.

Re: Homework help
I'll have to see if the library has them. It is the North Chicago library though, so the selection is often lacking.
