Why is dental so damn expensive...

I have 2 forms of dental insurance, each with the $1,000 cap.

Last year, I blew through both insurances and had to pay $500 out of pocket for ONE FRICKEN TOOTH. I got a root canal and a cap.

I need another one this time. I have a hole in my tooth from where the filling is old and...chipped away. It hurts. But I refuse to pay for that much on one fricken tooth. Sigh.

Yeah that stinks especially since you have TWO insurances you'd think that would help out a lot!

Have you shopped around to see if you can get it done cheaper any where else?

I don't know how you could go about shopping around though...

I can already see the dentists going,"Well I can't give you a guesstimate price without taking a look and doing some x-rays first..." Cha-ching.

No just call and tell them you need a "blah blah blah" and would like to know the estimate price.

I did that when I had to get my wisdom teeth removed and they gave me estimates.

I mean I had all four wisdom teeth removed and was put to sleep and only paid $900. So you should be able to get a better deal than paying $500 for ONE tooth.

See with this last molar, I got a temp put on and when he pulled it off, I had MASS pain so he sent me to a specialist for a root canal. The guys did a GREAT job and then I got my crown put on. However, it drained the insurance(s) and I still had out of pocket. I know that's the case for this tooth since there's already pain and just the condition of it.

It's insane how much you pay for fricken teeth. INSANE!

I wonder if I just got gipped and the guy was super duper expensive with dental services...?

I'm sorry that teeth are super expensive to care for, but everything on our body is expensive to care for, .

ohh, when does it start over? i got xrays and a filling and 2 caps(no root canal) and i paid 2000 out of pocket...dentists are just really expensive

It starts over in January but I'll max it out for the year in just that month. I can't afford 2k out of pocket with the twins coming and buying a new house.

yea i know it blows...i have 2 more caps i need to get but i cant afford it either with the twins coming, plus we need so much stuff for the new house its not even funny
