Arrgh! (warning language at end) Empty Arrgh! (warning language at end)

Post by belovedreamery Mon Aug 16, 2010 12:34 am

So I'm the only person in my class (which is all men except me) who hasn't gone to the CO dmv. I was told that it's really close to where I live. Lies, I've got to walk for 52 minutes (mom & dad expect me to live without a car for 3 years, ain't happening). What about bus? Okay, bus with what money? Bus is free with student ID... but I don't have mine yet. After paying for books tomorrow, I won't have money left for anything. I don't have my student ID yet so I can't rent a bike for free (who has a $150 deposit for renting a bike anyway?). So I call up mom & dad today (yay lovely) to find out that they're still listing me as a dependent and paying for my car insurance in NC.

1. I seriously told dad to stop cause this could affect my residency. Without CO residency before school starts... I have to pay $40K+ tuition for school year 2011-2012.

2. Mom started bitching about me buying a one-way ticket here. Urm, buying a round-trip ticket means that I no longer can write it off in my taxes for 'relocation expenses', and what would grad school think when I'm trying to gain residency? It explicitly states,'no travelling/living out of CO between semesters'... which matches up with my no going back for 1 year rule after relocating. Her reason for why I should've bought a round-trip ticket,"How would grad school ever find out that you didn't buy a one-way ticket?" My reason for not buying a round trip.... does it seem as though I would ever be given vacation time in grad school?

3. Mom started nagging about how I'm staying over at DB's so often I better not get pregnant and be a single mom. Now I can't sleep cause I'm so pissed and worried. Mother nature has decided to avoid me while months ago it decided to visit me twice a month with the beautiful gift.... now I just want it back. Took a pregnancy test on Friday, it was negative... I'm pretty sure this is all in my head. Arrgh! (warning language at end) 680868

So I figure I'll call my friends to vent and cool off... no, it's like past 11pm their time, no one is picking up their gosh darn phones.
Fuck my life. I gotta be up at 5:30am and get to the dmv by 7:30am. RARR! I feel like slapping mom.

glomp It can be all in your head and your body make you feel like you're knocked up when you're not. I don't know how residency works, when I went to school in PA I paid out of state tuition.

I thought typically you're considered out of state until you've lived there for a full year anyway?

I don't know how they would know if you traveled to visit friends/family out of state...

Can't you get a job while you're in CO to help pay for this stuff?

And, why isn't your DB helping you with any of this???

Are you only going to school there because that is where DB is?

Sorry I got back to this so late.
1. DB was working that day and we live 52 minutes of driving apart.
2. Residency does require a year, yes Jeannette. I just had to get my CO license before school started (23rd of aug) to start my one year of residence before applying to be classified as a resident.
3. I can't get a job because my job is as a full-time graduate student (I work 40hours in the lab and take 18 credit hours). I need permission from the department to work at... say Target. DB & I actually talked about this on Friday and he was furious at the system. I'm furious for different reasons.
I'm not only studying here in CO because of DB (in WY), I'm here because it's the only school that accepted me, I filled out more than 20 job applications and no one called back (before I decided to give grad school a shot), and I want to be far FAR away from my parents.
