Transition to a sippy cup?
So for the past week, EVERY TIME I have Wesson in my lap while I'm drinking a glass of something, he HAS to have it. So...I give it to him of course.
He has lapped up water, cranberry juice, and apple juice from a glass so I figured it's time to get him a sippy.
He won't touch it.
He'll drink out of my glass all day long, but he just gnaws on the sippy cup and could care less. He actually thinks the sippy is a toy and shakes it to hear the liquid.
How do you start them off and how do you incorporate sippy-usage in the daily schedule?
He has a bottle in the early morning...
Then cereal
Then a bottle
Then cereal for lunch
Then a bottle
Then a whole container of gerber 2nd foods
Then a bottle
Then a bath
Then a bottle
Then bed.

Did you get him the the soft nipple ones? Get him one that is as close to the nipple of a bottle. Get him the ones with the little handles. Try different kinds. Some kids just don't like certain sippy cups. 6 months is when your supposed to start using the sippy.

Ya...he has a Playtex stage 1. It has handles and everything. He could just care less about it.

What do you normally put in it? Just water? Try like a tablespoon of apple juice...see if that interest him.

That's what I did. I did 1 part apple juice to 3 parts water!
I even sat there and drank it to show him.
He just got bright-eyed, snatched it, and started banging it on stuff.
Maybe I'll just put down a million towels and let him figure out a cup...since that's the only thing he'll drink out of correctly besides his bottle.

not a good idea. Reese is three and I still don't let him drink out of a normal cup...It can get messy!
Just give him some time and maybe he will like it.

With Brayden we just completely took his bottle away the day after his first birthday . . . he never looked back. I have a feeling Princess Natalee is going to be a different story! lol

Connor didn't start to really get into sippys until he was close to a year. I would constantly give them to him but he would show now interest or just use them like a toy. Keep trying is all I can say. And try different type. Try not to think about how much you are spending on sippys

Reese didn't have a problem transitioning to anything. I just gave it to him and he went at it. We started at around 6-7 months.

Everything we did with Mackenzie was cold turkey and worked out beautifully.
We lost the paci - cold turkey - and it was a piece of cake..... same with losing the bottle..... just took it away.....
It really took no time adjusting.... it was easy both times!

I agree with you LaDonna Reese bit the nipples off his paci and he said "broke" so we told him he needed to throw them away and that was it. He didn't seem to care at all. No problems sleeping or anything. Same with the bottle he turned one and we took it away and it was like nothing changed. Guess we got lucky huh
