Can't remember the name of the movie...

There's significant scenes that I remember...but I can't remember what kind of film it was. It's a graphic detail, but it's all I can really remember of the movie...

The boy has a female friend. The female friend has a big brother. I want to say that the big brother beats up this kid and takes his dog and shoves him in a burlap sack and soaks it with gasoline. He then proceeds to beat up the boy and when he wakes up, it's burned. I think that this scene was a flashback that the boy had in the movie. I also want to say that the little girl got taken away from her father because he was "abusing" her. I think it was in the late 80's, 90's?

It's a bad scene...but does anyone remember what movie this is from?

I hate that movie. DH loves it. I don't like disturbing movies. I am happy in my sappy love, old musical, and 80's bubble.

I think it's a good movie, just a bit disturbing.
