Baked Goods Empty Baked Goods

Post by Gina Tue Feb 02, 2010 3:29 pm

Hey ladies!

I really want to send my DB some baked goods in the next package I send out to him in Haiti.

I'm very new to the care package stuff so I was hoping you gals could help me out! What is the best way to send cookies/brownies to him? How should I package them to keep them fresh and in one piece? I don't have a vacuum sealer so thats out Sad

Thanks loves!

I always used those glad throw away storage containers . . .
ALSO put them in zip lock bags inside the storage containers.

I have some plastic storage containers I could send out that he could toss. Do you stuck the air out of the ziplock with a straw?

Im just afraid of things molding or getting hard...

You could suck it out if you wanted to . . .
When I was sending things over, it was getting to them pretty quick.
(This was 2+ years ago)
I never really thought about things getting moldy.

We are actually starting to work with the families of the guys that are deployed up here in Wisconsin. I am second Vice-President at the local American Legion Post for the Auxiliary. The one thing I have been trying to get across to these women was the fact that they can not forget about the families left behind!

Just take one day at a time, and STAY BUSY! lol

We have the best Cheese Curds! We have better beer though Wink

LOL funny story . . . I was driving onto the base at Camp Pendleton and the guard looked at my id and was like:

"OH, from the dairy state I see?"

I looked right back at him and said

"No, actually I'm from Wisconsin."

Then the other Guard called him a dumb moon and started laughing

(being that California is the Dairy state)

I bake for DH for nearly every package. Buy the Ziploc vacuum sealer bags, they have them everywhere. Buy the starter pack, it comes with a little pump thingy to suck out the air from the bags. I used these every time and even the brownies that took nearly 3 weeks got their fresh.

The cookies I will just put as many as will fit, in a nice flat layer, in the bag and seal. Then the brownies I cut and wrapped in wax paper and then put them all in a bag together, but that way they wouldn't stick together or get mushed. Oh and I also stuck a piece of cardboard at the bottom of the brownie bag to keep it from smushing.

I checked Walmart for the vacuum sealer bags and couldnt find em...

Did you wrap each brownie up individually in the wax paper?

I found the starter pack at Food Lion and I've only seen the replacement bags at the commy, but I'm surprised they didn't have them at Wal-mart.

I did wrap each brownie individually, I meant to write that, but obviously failed. lol

Baked Goods Empty Freezing baked goods

Post by StarkCV62 Fri Jul 09, 2010 2:24 pm

My wife and I send care packages with The Hugs Project, and one of the things an Amry Mom taught us was to freeze the cookies and such before sending them. She had been sending them fresh baked in the morning and sent that afternoon. She had something come up and she put them in the freezer for a couple of days. Her son said the freezer ones were the best.
